Performance

Keyboard

Uranograph's performance keyboard is more than just an input device—it's the expressive heart of the instrument, offering an intuitive yet deeply responsive interface for performance and sound exploration.
From the lightest tap to the deepest press, every gesture becomes sound.

Bend, swell, brighten, or fade a note using only your fingers — just like on an acoustic instrument.
Let your hands explore textures, dynamics, and microtonal shifts with intuitive control.
The keyboard becomes an extension of your expression — not just a controller, but your primary instrument.

Microtonal flexibility: each key can be easily assigned to any pitch or pure frequency, providing complete flexibility in keyboard layout design and tuning.

Whether adhering to traditional Western tuning, exploring Arabic maqams, Indian ragas or experimental microtonal divisions, Uranograph provides an expansive range of tonal possibilities.
  • Preloaded with 50 keyboard layouts
  • Customizable keyboards allow users to design and store personalized layouts.
  • Instant recall ensures seamless transitions between different tonal systems.
This adaptability makes Uranograph an ideal instrument for non-standard tuning, enabling deep engagement with diverse musical traditions and avant-garde soundscapes.

Control Keyboard

Uranograph features a dedicated control keyboard designed for dynamic, hands-on sound transformation. Unlike traditional mod wheels or faders, this touch-based control surface enables real-time interaction with synthesis parameters, allowing for expressive, gestural modulation.

The control keyboard is divided into three functional sections: Articulation, Octave Shift / Pitch bend, and ModKeys.

Three articulation plates provide instant access to advanced phrasing techniques and canonic musical articulations found in stringed instruments: glissando, trillo, and staccato.

Two ModKeys serve as fully assignable, pressure-sensitive controllers for real-time modulation.

Each plate dynamically responds to pressure, enabling simultaneous control over multiple parameters.

By integrating expressive modulation gestures with the performance keyboard, players can shape fluid, evolving textures that respond organically to touch—enhancing expressivity and immediacy in synthesis.

Play full chords from a single key.

With the harmonic aliasing system, each note can trigger up to three voices in harmony, following custom interval rules. Create per-key chords, shifting textures, or stacked harmonics with modulatable density.

Advanced Harmonic and Phase Manipulation

Synthesis Core

Uranograph's digital core is built on additive and phase morphing synthesis, offering an innovative approach to shaping its five oscillators.

The primary sound source is a core oscillator that starts as a pure sine wave and transforms through multiple synthesis techniques, generating a spectrum of timbres from warm, organic tones to sharp, digital textures.

Uranograph provides multiple methods to modify the primary sine wave, introducing even and odd harmonics and sidebands, shaping both harmonic and inharmonic spectra. By altering the phase of a sine wave without changing its fundamental frequency, Uranograph transforms simple waveforms into dynamically evolving textures that range from warm and bell-like to metallic and aggressive.

  • Size (Phase Warping & Spectral Expansion): Stretches waveforms, altering harmonics similar to pulse-width modulation.

  • Tilt (Asymmetric Amplitude Distortion): Inspired by the Casio CZ series, this phase distortion skews waveforms asymmetrically, generating sounds from soft and vocal-like to harsh and metallic.

  • Fold (Wave Folding): Nonlinear reflection of signals creates a harmonic-rich spectrum, akin to West Coast synthesis.

Primary controls:

FX

Uranograph's core sound engine is enhanced by a suite of tailored DSP effects, meticulously designed to shape and refine every aspect of its timbres. These effects are fully integrated into the synthesis architecture, ensuring seamless interaction with the instrument's dynamic sound design. From spatial depth to harmonic reinforcement, these tools expand the Uranograph's sonic capabilities, offering immersive and evolving textures.

Uranograph's stereo delay system is engineered for polyrhythmic enhancement and spectral manipulation, seamlessly blending traditional echo effects with Karplus-Strong-style resonation.

Diffuse:
from tight rooms to vast ambient clouds — a single knob controls immersive space.

Looper: Real-Time Layering & Manipulation

At the heart of Uranograph’s sonic capabilities is its dual-reel tape looper—an integrated system purpose-built for advanced real-time recording, overdubbing, and layering.

The two reels are time and volume-independent and capture the post-effect mix.

Two recording modes can be chosen:

  • One‑shot – Waits for audio, then records a fixed-length loop.

  • Continuous – Inspired by Frippertronics, it records endlessly, evolving with each pass.

Loops can be repitched and triggered melodically from the keyboard—turning captured sound into a playable instrument.

Whether crafting intricate polyrhythmic structures or immersive, cinematic soundscapes, the tape looper encourages spontaneous experimentation and deep musical expression. Seamlessly integrated with Uranograph's synthesis engine, it serves as a powerful tool for both structured performance and free-form sound exploration, making it essential for dynamic composition and live improvisation.

Save & Recall: Effortless Preset Management

Uranograph features a powerful save and recall system, allowing you to store and instantly retrieve all knob and fader positions, keyboard layouts, and parameter assignments for later use.

With eight banks of 12 programs, you can access 96 presets in total, ensuring extensive flexibility for live performance and studio work.

Metronome for Live Performance & Looping

A built-in metronome is routed exclusively to the headphone output to support live performances and looping workflows. This ensures discreet tempo guidance without affecting the main mix.

This feature is handy for looping, tempo synchronization, and structured live performances, helping musicians stay locked to a rhythm without external cues.

External integration

Uranograph is more than a self‑contained synthesizer: it acts as a versatile hub for external sound processing. A studio‑grade, low‑noise balanced preamp with combo XLR/¼‑inch jack input lets you plug in microphones, guitars, drum machines—anything with a line‑ or mic‑level signal.

External audio merges with the synth’s internal voice before it reaches the FX engine, so every sound—from delicate vocals to gritty drum loops—can dive into Uranograph’s FX, and, ultimately, the dual‑reel looper.

Picture this: you plug in a mic, croon a single phrase, and in the same breath it’s swimming in tape delay and reverb, caught by Reel A, and instantly “playable” across the keyboard—each key press rebooting the loop while pitching it into lush harmonies or thunderous sub‑octaves. External audio doesn’t just pass through; it’s reborn as a living, keyboard‑controlled texture that can be layered, reversed, or decayed into oblivion alongside Uranograph’s own voices.

Uranograph turns vocals, guitars, and field recordings into fluid, repitchable soundscapes—ready for live performance, spontaneous looping, and jaw‑dropping moments you can’t achieve anywhere else.
